ANITA & THEO
"two origins, one promise"
A Palacio Tancos Tea Ceremony & Welcome Party
“Two Origins, One Promise” is the story of Anita and Theo’s pre-wedding event in Lisbon.
On the eve of their wedding, Anita and Theo gathered their closest family and friends for a deeply meaningful and joyful celebration in Lisbon: their tea ceremony and welcome party at Palacio Tancos. Set within the historic walls of the beautiful palace, this day was such a beautiful way of celebrating their shared happiness with everyone.
As a Chinese bride and an Indian groom bringing together loved ones from across the globe, they wanted a destination that felt welcoming, soulful, and full of character. Palacio Tancos, with its refined architecture and breathtaking views over the city, offered the perfect setting for this multicultural gathering.
While honoring the Chinese ritual was essential to them, Anita and Theo also wanted to embrace Theo’s Indian roots. In the morning, they put on traditional stunning Indian outfits which added texture, color and a sense of rythm to the photos.
We did two different photoshoots to reflect both of their cultures. The first took place within the elegant spaces of Palacio Tancos and then we went beyond the palace walls and into the lively streets near São Jorge Castle. Under Lisbon’s light, Anita and Theo laughed and fully embraced the magic of the city. Their outfits were absolutely jaw dropping and everyone stared at them and wished them happiness. The second one happened before the cocktail.
The afternoon began with the Chinese tea ceremony, in a room decorated specifically for that purpose, with red and gold details and flowers. This is one of the most significant traditions in Chinese weddings. Anita and Theo both wore traditional Chinese outfits, honoring Anita’s heritage and the ceremonial importance of the ritual. Dressed in rich shades of red and gold, they knelt together to serve tea to their parents and elder family members.
A Tea Ceremony for a couple is far more than a symbolic act. It is a moment of gratitude and respect, where the couple formally acknowledge their elders and receive their blessings in return. As they carefully offered tea with both hands, their families responded with warm smiles, loving words and traditional gifts, such as red envelopes. This exchange symbolized not only their union, but the union of two families and generations coming together. The following day (on their wedding day), their promise to love, support and grow together would become solemn.
Following the tea ceremony, the atmosphere gently shifted from tradition to celebration.
As the afternoon unfolded, guests were invited to the rooftop terrace for cocktails and food. The rooftop at Palacio de Tancos overlooks Lisbon’s iconic buildings and the Tagus River, offering a panoramic view. Here, their guests from different countries gathered to celebrate their love. Conversations flowed easily between them, glasses were raised, and spirited speeches were made.
This Palacio Tancos tea ceremony and welcome party was a true experience. It was a space where Chinese and Indian traditions were honored side by side, where old rituals met new memories, and where love was celebrated in its most inclusive form.
I will remember this day for years to come, not only for its elegance and setting, but for the genuine warmth and connection shared by everyone present.
It was wonderful!
