CAMILA & GONÇALO

THE DAY THE SKIES CLEARED

A Quinta Lago dos Cisnes dreamy wedding

There are weddings that completely sweep you off your feet. Camila and Gonçalo’s Quinta Lago dos Cisnes wedding was exactly that — an unforgettable celebration where elegance and nature blended in the most spectacular way.

But first, a little context: Camila, Gonçalo and I first met on an video call, back in March 2024 (they had just started inquiring for their 2025 wedding). Although it’s not unusual to have a couple reach out to me so far in advance, what I remember the most of that call is that we spent more than an hour talking about their wedding, life and our personalities.

And just like that, 45 minutes after our meeting, they wrote back saying they’d like to book me as their wedding photographer. I was so excited!

From that point on, we had plenty of time to plan everything and every step of the process was so organic and lovely… from the engagement shoot in Braga to the final delivery of their wedding album! In the middle of it all, I ended up also meeting their wonderful parents and friends and eating the best veggie “Francesinha” ever!

The Rain & the Legend

It had been raining all week in Braga and they were worried. Grey skies lingered, and showers seemed constant in the days leading up to the wedding. But in this part of Portugal, there’s an interesting legend: if you want good weather on your wedding day, you make an offering of eggs to Santa Clara.

So, before the big day, Camila and her mother-in-law Paula visited the Convento Franciscano de Braga and offered twelve eggs to Santa Clara, asking for clear skies and sunshine on April 5th.

And then — something incredible happened.

On the wedding day, it rained all morning. But just as Camila arrived at the ceremony and stepped out of the car at Bom Jesus do Monte, the rain stopped. The clouds lifted. And the skies remained clear for the rest of the day, as if the legend had worked its magic. There was even an incredible rainbow up in the sky.

A Beautiful Ceremony at Bom Jesus do Monte

Camila — half Brazilian, half Puerto Rican, raised mostly in the United States — and Gonçalo —  Portuguese — chose to begin this new chapter of their lives in his hometown of Braga.

Perched high above the city, Bom Jesus do Monte provided a breathtaking setting for their religious ceremony. Its iconic staircase and sweeping views created a sense of grandeur and history that perfectly framed the moment.

Saying “I do” at such a historic sanctuary added an emotional layer to a day already filled with so much love, family and friends from around the world and powered by the miracle of the clearing skies.

Falling in Love with Quinta Lago dos Cisnes

If the ceremony was meaningful, the reception was pure enchantment.

Arriving at Quinta Lago dos Cisnes, one could only fall in love with the place. Surrounded by green lawns, the venue features both a natural and an artificial lake — each playing a role in this unforgettable wedding.

Their grand entrance to cocktail hour was nothing short of cinematic. Descending the huge staircase from the treehouse, they were welcomed by cheers, music, and pure excitement. A live Brazilian band filled the area with warm, soulful rhythms — a beautiful nod to Camila’s heritage – which got everybody dancing and warmed up for the party later that night.

The natural lake, with its charming gazebo, was the setting where Camila and Gonçalo exchanged their personal vows, in a very emotional moment.

Guests wandered freely between the fabulous cocktail areas: indoors, in two elegant rooms adorned with cascading ivy and crystal chandeliers, or outside in cozy lounge spaces under the trees.

Organic Elegance & A 1920’s-Inspired Ballroom

The decor leaned toward organic and classy, with plenty of candles, lush florals, and thoughtfully chosen natural elements. Soft textures met refined details, creating a space that felt elevated and welcoming.

The main party area resembled a glamorous 1920’s ballroom. A striking floor set the stage, surrounded by  floral arrangements and romantic golden accents that caught the light beautifully.

Dinner unfolded with heartfelt speeches and bursts of laughter. Then, as the evening progressed, everyone transitioned outdoors once more for one of the most spectacular moments of this Lago dos Cisnes wedding.

Cake by the Lake

The cake cutting took place by the artificial lake — and it was extraordinary. Paper lanterns illuminated the water. Behind the couple, a cascading water show added a dramatic, almost fairytale-like backdrop. It was there, on a wooden platform, that Camila and Gonçalo sliced their cake, surrounded by their loved ones.

Moments later, they shared their first dance as newlyweds, officially kicking off a night of celebration that transformed the elegant ballroom into a vibrant dance floor.

An Experience to Remember

This was my first time at Quinta Lago dos Cisnes, and I can honestly say I cannot wait to return. There’s something uniquely special about a wedding in Quinta Lago dos Cisnes — the way nature, architecture, and thoughtful design come together so elegantly.

Camila and Gonçalo’s day was more than just a wedding. It was an experience filled with culture, romance, music, and unforgettable beauty.
