BÉATUS & MARK
"THIS WORLD WE'VE BUILT"
Same-Sex Wedding in Lisbon, in a castle by the sea
“This World We’ve Built” is the unforgettable love story of Béatus and Mark, filled with heart, style and sunlight.
Some love stories stay with you long after the celebration ends. Béatus and Mark’s emotional same-sex wedding in Lisbon was one of those rare, soul-warming days that reminded me exactly why I do what I do. From the very first moment I met them, I fell in love with their energy and who they are—two wonderful human beings whose connection radiates joy, depth, and an effortless sense of harmony.
They are the kind of people filled with kindness and authenticity, and capturing their story felt like a privilege from beginning to end.
For years, they had envisioned a destination wedding—something intimate and experiential, a celebration that would let their closest loved ones fully immerse themselves in a beautiful place. And what better destination than sunny Portugal in the summer? Lisbon, with its soft ocean breeze and glowing July light, provided the perfect setting for their guests to love the city and the moment.
Their story began ten years ago, and after a surprise proposal in Paris in November 2021, they knew that getting married on the exact day of their first date anniversary would be extraordinary. They invited only a small number of guests, creating an intimate atmosphere where every hug, every tear, and every smile felt magnified.
A few weeks before the big day, we had a call where they showed me their décor inspirations and their outfits. I remember ending that call buzzing with excitement. Their style? Exceptional. Their ideas? Fresh and deeply personal.
“Incomparable” is truly the best word to describe this same-sex wedding in Lisbon. Their rings were handcrafted by a skilled artisan, their suits tailored in India with delicate beaded detailing and they even had a glamorous second outfit. The color palette was bold and stunning, unlike any other I’ve seen: Béatus wore a light peach suit that glowed against his gorgeous skin tone, while Mark wore a soft lavender that perfectly matched his blond hair and blue eyes.
Together, they looked like they had stepped out of a fashion editorial—elegant, unique, and completely themselves. The dress code was quite singular too: all their guests had to dress in white, creating a stunning visual canvas. It goes without saying that I completely loved the idea. I’m all for breaking conventions and embracing your own norms.
After a relaxed morning at the Editory Riverside Hotel where they did a first look, they headed to the venue: the magnificent Forte da Cruz, a one of a kind castle by the sea. Their ceremony took place in a courtyard facing the ocean, with a minimalist backdrop of two pedestals with white flower arrangements. Mark entered with his parents, and Béatus did the same. Their nieces, nephews, and sisters led the processional — an adorable highlight- and one of their best friends, Matthew, officiated the ceremony with infectious joy and heartfelt energy.
They were both visibly nervous and excited, which only made the moment more touching. During the vows, their words poured out with sincerity, and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. It was one of the most emotional ceremonies I’ve ever witnessed. “This world we’ve built” was the opening line in one of the vows they read and it stuck with me till this day. So poetic and so beautiful…
After the ceremony, cocktails were served at the top of the tower and balcony, where guests could admire the beach and the coastline. During the couple’s photoshoot, under a warm light, they were a dream. Béatus was naturally at ease in front of the camera, while Mark—more shy by nature—followed his lead beautifully. Their connection was so tender, fun and effortless.
The reception marquee featured hanging greenery above U-shaped tables to ensure guests could see and talk to one another. They wanted connection to be the heart of the evening, and it was. A live Brazilian band played during dinner, including one special song they had requested in advance. There were speeches during the reception and all of them were deeply heartfelt. Parents, nephews and nieces shared words of love and true admiration for them.
Before the party, Béatus and Mark changed into black, sparkly, dance-ready outfits—and the dance floor absolutely exploded with energy. It was wild and unforgettable.
Their wedding was a day I’ll always cherish. Their love, gentle and captivating, a true reminder of the power of love. I’ll be forever grateful for the honor of having documented their story.
Thank you for every moment!
